PDFToolBox - Protect document
Select the PDF document with the "Select input PDF file" button.
You have to select the output PDF file with the "Select output PDF file" button.
If the program finds that the original PDF file is password protected, it will ask for the password and can not continue until the password is provided.
User password: the user cannot open the new PDF file until he/she provides this password.
Owner password: the user cannot change the security settings entered below until he/she provides this password.
Allow printing: the user cannot print the content of the PDF file if this setting is unchecked.
Allow modifying: the user cannot modify the content of the PDF file if this setting is unchecked.
Allow copying: the user cannot copy-paste the content of the PDF file if this setting is unchecked.
Use strong encryption: the default encryption level is a 40 bit RC4 encryption. Check this setting and the application will use 128 bit RC4 encryption. Please be aware that 128 bit encryption is a feature of Acrobat 5 / Acrobat Reader 7 and above.
Use the "Save as WWF" checkbox if you would like to save the result document in WWF format.
(Some words about PDF security: A PDF file can have an open document password (user password) and a change security settings password (master password). If the file has both passwords, it can be opened with either one. When a file is opened with an open document password, the security restrictions are temporarily disabled. If you set any security restrictions in your file, you should also specify a change security setting password (master password); otherwise anyone who opens the file could remove the restrictions. The restrictions apply only in case of using a proper PDF reader which can handle the protection settings, for example Acrobat Reader of Foxit Reader.)
Press the "Go" button and you will get a file with the selected protection features.
This function is only available in PDFToolBox and PDFProtect!
